Piano tuner Chillicothe Ohio

Registered Piano Technician RPT

Hello!   I am Walter Bagnall RPT,  Piano Tuner Chillicothe Ohio.  Certified as a Registered Piano Technician, I tune and service acoustic pianos from your favorite family spinet to the finest concert grand piano.   I have many years experience tuning pianos, beginning in Southeastern Ohio in the ’80s and ’90s and taking up the craft anew in 2018 in the Chillicothe Ohio area.   I invite you to take time to view my Credentials page to learn about piano tuning certification and my own experience and qualifications.

Piano tuning cost within Service Area of Ross and Pickaway counties:

$130 plus tax. This is the basic tuning for pianos which receive regular maintenance and have been professionally tuned within the last year or so.  The basic tuning assumes that all the keys and pedals work correctly and the piano is close to A-440.  For this level of piano service I’ll be in your home about two hours.

$170 plus tax. This is a full service, which includes pitch raise to A-440, pedal adjustments, vacuum the interior of the piano, and clean the keytops.   Pianos which have been untuned or otherwise unattended for several years need a full service rather than a basic tuning.   Pitch correction over 30 cents, string breakage, repair or regulation issues will have additional charges.   With the full service call you can expect me to be in your home about three hours or so.

I have a minimum service call of $60 within regular service area.

PAYMENT METHODS:

I accept payment by check, cash, debit or credit card, Venmo,  ApplePay,  Zelle or

Paypal –  PayPal.Me/bettermusicpiano .

Piano Resurrection  –  Have you inherited a family heirloom or acquired an older piano at little cost?  Many of these instruments have not been maintained regularly and need some TLC (okay, a lot).  Often they are below standard pitch by 100 cents or more but are essentially sound.  Give me a call and we can set up an appointment to see what can be done at an affordable cost.   The piano will need a pitch raise, mouse cleanup or something else, but most problems can be resolved.   Generally, unless there are serious issues, about $225-$300 plus tax will get it in tune at A-440 with all keys and pedals in working order.  It won’t be perfect, but you will be able to use the instrument.   Old-style uprights, square grands, and historic pianos 80 years old or more can have their unique problems, but I will be glad to examine the instrument and give an estimate.  Be aware that sometimes these instruments are beyond repair; if this is my diagnosis there is no charge for the assessment (within service area).

I specialize in fine aural tuning (tuning by ear), which in these days of electronic-reliance is a rarity.  However, that doesn’t mean I ignore electronics.  I do possess an electronic tuning device, which I find to be a crucial timesaver for pitch raises and problem instruments.

I have training and experience in the service and tuning of harpsichords;  feel free to call if you have an historical instrument.

Piano Tuner Chillicothe Ohio – Most of my clients are within my service area of Ross and Pickaway Counties, Ohio, though I am sensitive to the fact that a qualified RPT (certified piano tuner) may not be available for many piano owners in Southern Ohio.  If you live in county of  Adams, Athens, Fairfield, Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Pike, Scioto or Vinton, feel free to call for piano tuning cost.  With fuel and other costs being so high nowadays, I ask for additional travel allowance for pianos outside my usual service area, such as Gallipolis, Hillsboro, Jackson, Logan, Lucasville, McArthur, Peebles, Portsmouth, Rio Grande, Washington Court House, Waverly, Wellston and West Union.

Be an Informed Consumer

You may be surprised to learn that some piano tuners do not have professional certification.   While there always have been and always will be those who work without certification,  a professional piano tuner will have the authentic credentials that you deserve and will conduct business in a financially responsible way.  In today’s business environment, any trustworthy and responsible tradesperson entering your home will be fully transparent about their credentials and business practices.   Be a smart consumer.  Ask for proof of certification.  Learn about the RPT (Registered Piano Technician) certification and verify your piano tuner’s RPT certification by searching the online Registered Piano Technician database:

RPT database (Find a Registered Piano Technician)

Piano owners and musicians around Chillicothe and Circleville Ohio are often dismayed to find that the individual they have trusted to tune their piano is not certified.   I invite viewers to check for themselves through the database lookup link shown above; I am the only certified RPT in an 11 county area in southern Ohio which includes Ross and Pickaway Counties.

I maintain all client records on old fashioned pen and paper.  No personal information is recorded online or in any network; thus there is no chance of a data breach.
